Ir recommends: Baltvilks Prize readings and Ivars Zviedrs film festival
On July 24, the University of Latvia Botanical Garden hosts readings dedicated to Jānis Baltvilks, while on July 25, the Ivars Zviedrs Film Festival begins at Liepupe Church.
Two cultural events are taking place in Latvia this week. On July 24 at 11:00, the University of Latvia Botanical Garden's Barn will host the international literary readings "Burtu gogelmogels", dedicated to the memory of Jānis Baltvilks. These readings are part of the Baltvilks Prize ceremony, which for the 22nd time will honor achievements in children's and youth literature, book art, and translation. Admission is free.
On July 25 at 23:00, the Ivars Zviedrs Film Festival will begin at Liepupe Church. The festival program includes the animated film "God's Dog", as well as archive materials from the Kinofotofonodokuments collection, accompanied by pianist Mārtiņš Roziņš. The festival will conclude with Ivars Zviedrs' documentary "Be Faithful Unto Death" – a tragicomic story of a 24-year relationship that has turned into codependency and survival routine. This event also offers free entry.
