Iran offers $30,000 bounty for killing or capturing US soldiers
Iran's military has announced a cash reward for killing or capturing any US serviceman, with women eligible for double the amount. The offer comes amid months of confrontation between Tehran and Washington.
Iranian army commander Amir Hatami announced on Sunday, August 16, that the armed forces are offering a $30,000 reward to anyone who kills or captures and hands over an American serviceman. The announcement was reported by the state news agency IRNA, according to ERR.
Hatami said the sum equals five billion tomans — an unofficial currency unit equivalent to 10,000 Iranian rials. He explained that the plan was developed in response to numerous requests to contribute financial support for such an initiative.
The commander specifically noted that brave Iranian women who carry out such an act would receive double the reward.
Background of the conflict
According to the report, US ground troops have not entered Iran during the war, apart from a rescue operation in April to retrieve a downed American pilot.
The war between Tehran and Washington began on February 28, when the US, together with Israel, attacked Iran. After nearly 40 days of fighting, a ceasefire followed in April, and in June the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding, which nonetheless ended in failure. Since then, Iran and the US have periodically exchanged strikes, with fighting concentrated mainly in southern Iran and around the Strait of Hormuz.
