Iran began a days-long funeral on Saturday, July 4, 2026, for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The 86-year-old leader was killed in an air strike at the onset of the US-Israeli war against Iran.

Mourners wept as authorities unveiled the casket containing Khamenei's body at the Grand Mosalla in Tehran. Several hundred people had already gathered outside the venue on Friday evening, awaiting the start of the ceremonies.

Khamenei's body had arrived at Tehran's Grand Mosalla religious complex on Friday. The new chief of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) emerged from hiding to pay his respects to the slain leader as Tehran prepared for the multi-day funeral.
