Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on June 12 via X that Washington and Tehran are "closer than ever" to reaching a deal that would end the war. He noted that the memorandum of understanding is "closer than ever" to finalization. Araghchi advised the media to refrain from speculation about the content until the document is finalized and promised that all details would be shared with the public in due time. US President Donald Trump reposted Araghchi's statement on his Truth Social platform. Earlier, sources informed journalists that the US and Iran could sign an agreement to cease hostilities and restore navigation in the Strait of Hormuz before the G7 summit scheduled for June 15-17. Trump said that the signing with Iran could happen as early as this weekend, June 13-14.
