Iranian fans in Tehran rally behind team in goalless draw with Belgium

The result keeps hopes alive for advancing to the second round, despite strict US travel restrictions that forced the team to fly back to Mexico within hours of the match.

Hundreds of Iranian football fans assembled in the capital Tehran to watch their country's crucial World Cup match against Belgium, held in Los Angeles. The game ended in a goalless draw, 0-0, preserving Iran's chance to advance to the knockout stage for the first time in history.

The draw carries extra significance given the severe travel restrictions imposed by the United States on Iranian nationals. Unlike most teams, which can rest overnight after a match, the Iranian squad was required to return to Mexico within hours of the final whistle. The team is based in Mexico during the tournament due to visa and entry limitations.

Despite these logistical hurdles, fans in Tehran created a festive atmosphere, waving flags and chanting. The result against a strong Belgian side is seen as an achievement. Iran must now secure a positive result in its final group match to progress to the round of 16.
