Irish writer Sara Baume in Latvia talks about novel and loneliness

Irish writer and artist Sara Baume visited Latvia in March to take part in the Riga Book Festival held at the National Library of Latvia. During the event, she met with readers and gave an interview to LSM's culture desk.

Baume's novel 'spill simmer falter wither' was published in Latvian in mid-2025 by the publishing house Jānis Roze. In a conversation with journalist Aija Bremšmite, the author revealed the backstory of the novel's creation and spoke about empathy and personal loneliness. She emphasized that loneliness often emerges at a time when a person is unhappy.

The writer shared her experience of the writing and creative process, describing it as complex yet fascinating. Her visit to Latvia allowed readers to get a closer look at both her work and her perspective on literature and life.
