Greek island of Ithaca banks on Nolan's Odyssey for tourism boost
While Santorini and Mykonos battle overtourism with visitor caps and fees, the small island of Ithaca hopes Christopher Nolan's Odyssey film will finally put it on the map.
Greece's best-known islands have spent 2026 trying to hold tourist numbers back, with Santorini and Mykonos introducing caps on cruise ship arrivals and steep entry fees to control overcrowding.
Ithaca, however, faces the opposite challenge. Long celebrated in legend as the home of Homer's hero Ulysses, the small island has largely stayed off the beaten tourist path — and local hopes are now pinned on a Hollywood boost rather than crowd control.
A film-driven opportunity
Those hopes rest on Christopher Nolan's upcoming film Odyssey, which is expected to draw fresh international attention to this quieter corner of Greece.
