Italy's Aflabox Raises €1.35 Million to Scale AI-Powered Portable Aflatoxin Detection

Aflabox, an Italian agricultural technology startup focused on transforming food safety, has announced the completion of a €1.35 million seed funding round. The company aims to make aflatoxin detection accessible, affordable, and efficient, addressing a critical challenge in food safety.

The round was carried out through FoodSeed, a program within CDP Venture Capital's National Accelerator Network dedicated to agrifood startups and managed by Eatable Adventures. This investment will enable Aflabox to scale its AI-powered portable aflatoxin detection devices across both African and European markets.

Aflatoxins are toxic compounds produced by certain molds, commonly found in crops like maize and peanuts. They pose serious health risks to humans and livestock, making reliable detection essential. Traditional testing methods often require laboratory analysis, which can be time-consuming and expensive.

Aflabox's portable solution offers rapid, on-site detection, providing immediate results without the need for specialized laboratory infrastructure. This is particularly valuable in regions where access to food safety testing is limited, such as parts of Africa, where the technology can help prevent contaminated food from entering supply chains.
