Publisher "Santa": print and digital media complement each other

The head of publishing house "Santa", Santa Anča, says printed magazines have not lost their relevance but have changed their role — shifting from giving practical advice to offering in-depth reading. She spoke about this on Latvian Radio's programme "Laikmeta krustpunktā".

Publishing house "Santa", like much of the print media sector, has in recent years faced the need to adapt to digitalisation and expand its content online. Santa Anča, head of the publishing house, discussed this on Latvian Radio's programme "Laikmeta krustpunktā".

According to Anča, digital and print formats should not be seen as competitors but as complementary to one another. She noted that many readers still prefer printed text because they want to read at a slower pace and delve deeper into topics than the fast-moving digital environment typically allows.

The changing role of magazines

The publisher pointed out that the essence and function of magazines in readers' lives have shifted. While magazines used to primarily offer practical advice and concrete knowledge for everyday needs, such information is now widely available online at any time. As a result, print publications are increasingly focusing on content that invites readers to engage more deeply with a topic and dedicate more time and attention to it.

Santa Anča expressed confidence that print media still has its place and audience despite the growing importance of digital outlets. The publishing house continues developing both its print and digital content, seeking a balance between the two formats to meet the needs and habits of different readers.
