Education Minister Indriksone discusses party's course in interview
The National Alliance, which spent most of the 14th Saeima term in opposition, gained four ministerial posts after May's government reshuffle. Former PM candidate Ilze Indriksone, now education and science minister, discussed the party's program, views on Latvian identity, and migration policy in an interview with Jānis Domburs.
From opposition to government
The National Alliance (NA) spent most of the 14th Saeima's term in opposition. That changed this May, when a government reshuffle took place and NA secured four ministerial portfolios in the new cabinet, marking a shift from opposition politics to direct influence over decision-making.
From PM candidate to minister
At the end of last year, NA had put forward Ilze Indriksone as its candidate for prime minister. Although that goal was not achieved at the time, Indriksone now holds the post of education and science minister in the new government — one of the four portfolios awarded to the party.
A conversation about the party's direction
In an interview with host Jānis Domburs, Indriksone answered questions about NA's political program, the party's understanding of the concept of Latvian identity in society, and migration policy issues. These topics have long been part of NA's agenda, both during its time in opposition and now as part of the governing coalition.
As minister, Indriksone bears direct responsibility for the education and science sector, while the interview offered a broader look at NA's positions on several issues currently relevant to society and politics.
