Another Suspect Detained in Plot to Kill Official
Ukrainian authorities have detained another individual involved in the preparation of an assassination attempt against Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) and deputy head of the Coordination Headquarters for Prisoners of War. The Office of the Prosecutor General provided details.
According to the investigation, the murder of the official was allegedly prepared under the supervision of Russian representatives. Investigators established the role of a 34-year-old former serviceman who served as an intermediary between the client and the would-be perpetrator.
It is believed that in early 2026, an unidentified person approached the suspect and offered him to find someone willing to kill the GUR official. The client promised $100,000 for carrying out the crime.
Subsequently, the suspect began searching for a hitman. In Kyiv, he met an acquaintance, proposed he join the murder plot, and provided the client's contact details for direct communication. From February to June 1, the intermediary systematically persuaded the acquaintance to commit the murder.
The suspected perpetrator, who was preparing to carry out the attack on Yusov, was detained on June 4. The intermediary was arrested on June 18. He has been charged with incitement to premeditated murder for mercenary motives, by order, and by prior conspiracy of a group of persons. On June 19, a court ordered his pretrial detention without the possibility of bail.
