Latvia's Ministry of Education and Science (IZM) has allocated funding this year to seven European and world championships taking place in Latvia, according to information published on the ministry's website. The total funding allocated reaches nearly €150,000.
Bridge federation gets the largest share
More than half of this funding will go to the Latvian Bridge Federation. This means the bridge championships have been allotted significantly more support than all six other championships combined.
Explanation requested
Regarding this distribution of funds, a request has been made for the ministry to explain why such a substantial portion of the total support was designated specifically for the bridge championships, compared with the other sporting events taking place in Latvia this year.
Detailed information on exactly how the remaining funding is divided among the other six championships has not yet been widely commented on publicly.
