Latvia's Education Ministry proposes adding family health education to schools via Social Studies

Latvia's Ministry of Education and Science (IZM) has outlined a plan to bring family health education into schools by embedding it as a module within the existing subject "Social Studies," taught from grade 1 through grade 9.
Under the proposal, the module would focus on values education and health literacy. The ministry also intends to build cross-subject connections, linking the new content with biology as well as sports and health classes, so that students receive a more integrated understanding of family health topics.
Response to a political inquiry
The plan became public after the ministry responded to a request submitted by the Progressives party regarding education reforms. The inquiry indicates that the placement of family health education within the school curriculum remains a topic of political discussion.
