Competition Announced for Director of Bauska Castle Museum

The Bauska municipality has announced an open competition for the position of director of the Bauska Castle Museum. A new leader is being sought because longtime director Māris Skanis has decided to end his tenure. At the end of June, the Bauska municipal council supported his request to terminate his employment as of August 31 of this year, of his own volition. Skanis has led the museum since its establishment and was one of the main drivers of the castle's restoration project.

Candidates are required to have a higher education in art science, art history, or a field related to cultural heritage preservation, at least three years of experience in a managerial position at a cultural institution, and professional experience in the museum sector. Understanding of museum operations, cultural heritage management, project management, financial planning, and team leadership is expected.

The new director's duties will include ensuring the museum's continuity and development, leading the staff, organizing restoration, repair, and maintenance work at the castle, preparing the museum for accreditation, developing strategic plans and budgets, coordinating research and collection development, as well as securing funding and building international cooperation. The director will also be responsible for promoting professional art and music corresponding to the historical period of Bauska Castle.

The municipality offers a salary starting from 2,251 euros before taxes. Applications must be submitted by July 23 of this year. Candidates must include a motivation letter, a curriculum vitae, and a vision for the museum's work and development prospects. Copies of education and qualification documents must also be attached, including certificates of professional development courses taken in the last three years.
