An exhibition titled “The Unaccounted: Life Technologies and the Future Human” is now open at the Museum of Medical History in Riga, focusing on the history of eugenics and the responsibilities that come with today's ability to manipulate human biology. Co-curator Igors Gubenko emphasizes that the show serves as a warning about the ethical weight of modern biotechnologies.

Gubenko is also involved in a mural project called “Riga Atlantis,” located in the underground passage between the Central Station and the Central Market. The mural depicts the Riga Canal with various aquatic animals, but set against a background of melting buildings and air pollution molecules. This artwork, according to Gubenko, is a reminder of the climate catastrophe that requires adaptation from everyone.

Together, the exhibition and the mural highlight two existential threats: the misuse of biological manipulation and environmental degradation. Gubenko stresses that both demand careful consideration and collective responsibility.
