Jak Jones stuns Mark Selby to claim British Open title
Welshman Jak Jones beat four-time world champion Mark Selby 10-6 in the British Open final to win the second ranking title of his career.
Welsh snooker player Jak Jones has won the British Open title, defeating four-time world champion Mark Selby 10-6 in the final.
The match was tied 4-4 after the afternoon session, during which Selby produced a break of 139. Selby later leveled the score again at 5-5 with another century break, but Jones then began to edge ahead, moving into a 7-5 lead.
Breaks of 53 and 62 brought Jones within one frame of the title, and after Selby failed to pot a green in the deciding frame, Jones sealed the victory.
Jones had earlier beaten Judd Trump in the semi-final. This marks his second ranking title, following his first triumph at the 2026 Championship League in July.
A long road to success
Jones turned professional in 2010 at the age of 16 and dropped off the World Snooker Tour twice in the years that followed, before establishing himself as a regular fixture on the tour from 2016 onwards.
In 2024, he reached the World Championship final but lost to Kyren Wilson.
Speaking after the win, Jones said he could hardly believe it and admitted he never expected to be able to overcome a player of Selby's caliber. He thanked his parents, wife and son, noting that the last 15 years had been a difficult struggle in the sport, and said it felt amazing to finally start winning titles this season.
