Janis Berzins: Zelli's Eurocup Group Is Strong but Not a Death Group
Riga Zelli have learned their opponents for their debut Eurocup season, and forward Janis Berzins commented that the group is strong but not a death group, emphasizing the importance of the first games.
The draw for the upcoming ULEB Eurocup season took place today, and Latvia's Riga Zelli found out their opponents for their debut campaign. The team was placed in Group D, where they will face Le Mans (France), Hapoel Jerusalem (Israel), Burgos (Spain), Cedevita Olimpija (Slovenia), Tortona (Italy), Aris (Greece), and Rostock (Germany).
Forward Janis Berzins acknowledged that the group is strong but refrained from calling it a death group, noting that Group D was even tougher. Berzins specifically highlighted Aris, which possesses a massive budget and has been signing top players. He stressed that the first games are crucial as they provide confidence.
Berzins also pointed out that each team has its own style – the French are athletic and physical, the Spaniards are quick, and all have high skill levels. He expressed pleasure that the group features teams from various countries, offering diversity for spectators. Cedevita Olimpija was mentioned as a big name in the Adriatic League.
From each group, the top four teams will advance to the round of 16.
