Jānis Reišulis takes fifth in China MX2 round with strong second moto

At the penultimate round of the motocross world championship in China, both Reišulis brothers posted solid results in the MX2 class. Jānis Mārtiņš Reišulis finished fifth overall across two motos, while Kārlis Alberts Reišulis ended up eighth.

The first moto did not go smoothly for Jānis Reišulis, who crashed early in the race and had to fight his way back from the rear of the field, eventually crossing the finish line in seventh place. Only 15 riders took the start in the MX2 category on the Shanghai track. Kārlis Reišulis was on track for a good result in the first moto but later crashed at the same spot as his brother, finishing eleventh.

Both brothers fared better in the second moto. Jānis Reišulis started in fourth place, briefly dropped to fifth, but reclaimed fourth and held it to the finish. Kārlis Reišulis ran seventh for the first half of the race before moving up to sixth, where he finished.

Overall standings

Combining both motos, Jānis Reišulis closed out the China round in fifth place overall, while Kārlis finished eighth. In the season standings, Jānis holds sixth place, with Kārlis right behind him in seventh.

The round victory went to the Triumph team, whose rider Camden McLellan won the first moto, ahead of teammate Guillem Farres and reigning champion Simon Längenfelder. Farres won the second moto, but McLellan's second-place finish there secured him the overall round win.

The championship title remains undecided, with the deciding battle set for the final round in Australia. Farres holds a 48-point lead over teammate McLellan, leaving McLellan only a mathematical chance of claiming the title. Another title contender, Sacha Coenen, crashed out of the second moto and is now out of the title race.
