Latvian motocross rider Jānis Reišulis opened his Netherlands Grand Prix weekend in Arnhem strongly, setting the fastest lap times in both free practice and qualifying practice. In Saturday's qualifying race he briefly held third place before ultimately finishing fifth.

First race

In the opening lap of the first MX2 race, Reišulis was sixth. He later moved ahead of reigning MX2 champion Simon Längenfelder, who then dropped back again, as well as past Julien Mikula, climbing to fifth place. He held that position for several laps before having to concede to Liam Everts. Near the end of the race Längenfelder briefly passed him again, but Reišulis fought back and crossed the finish line in sixth place.

His brother Kristers Reišulis started the race in ninth position. After Mikula fell behind him, the Yamaha rider ultimately finished eighth.

Victory follows rival's mistake

The race winner was Camden McLellan, whose success largely resulted from a rival's error. Belgian rider Sacha Coenen had convincingly led most of the race after a strong start, but two laps before the finish, under pressure from those chasing him, he crashed. Triumph team rider McLellan seized the opportunity, took the lead and finished the race without further mistakes. Coenen managed to get back on his bike and salvage second place, while championship points leader Guillem Farres finished third. Everts and Valerio Lata rounded out the top five.
