Latvia's Central Election Commission (CVK) has released results from the polling station set up in Japan for the 15th Saeima election. According to this data, among Latvian citizens voting there, two political groups received the broadest support: the United List (AS) and the Progressives party.
Voting abroad
Latvian citizens living outside the country are entitled by law to take part in Saeima elections by casting ballots at polling stations organized through embassies or consulates. Japan was one of the locations where such a station operated for this election. Votes cast abroad are tallied separately from domestic precincts but are included in the overall national election result.
The CVK is the body responsible for overseeing the conduct of elections, counting votes, and publishing official results. Its release of data from individual polling stations, including those abroad, makes it possible to see how support for specific parties and alliances varied among different groups of voters.
Results from individual overseas polling stations, such as the one in Japan, often differ from the overall picture in Latvia, since the number of voters abroad is comparatively small and can reflect the particular preferences of that voter group. The CVK continues to compile and publish data from other polling stations, both within Latvia and abroad, as the election process proceeds.
