During the World Cup finals in the Caribbean Sea, a reddish sea slug about four millimeters long was discovered. It turned out to be a previously unknown marine slug species, and Spanish researcher Jesús Ortea named it "Vozinha's sea slug" or Aldisa vozinha after Cape Verde national team goalkeeper Vozinha (full name Aldisa Vozinha).

Ortea, a professor of animal biology and zoology at the University of Oviedo, has a history of naming newly discovered species after footballers. In 2019, he discovered a tiny sea slug species and named it after former Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

Cape Verde's goalkeeper Vozinha became the oldest World Cup debutant at 40 years and 12 days old. He gained immense popularity after a shocking goalless draw against Spain. Cape Verde's tournament ended in the round of 16, where they lost 2–3 to Argentina after extra time.
