Apple held a special online presentation on Wednesday that broke from its usual pattern — there was no announcement of the standard next-generation iPhone. Instead, the company unveiled new Pro-line smartphones, updated watches and wireless earbuds.
Apple's first foldable phone
The biggest announcement of the event was the long-rumored foldable smartphone, named "iPhone Duo". While competing manufacturers have already released several generations of foldable-screen phones, this marks Apple's first entry into the format. Reports indicate the new device will be considerably more expensive than the company's existing smartphones.
A new leader debuts new products
The presentation was led by John Ternus, who took over the company's leadership from longtime CEO Tim Cook earlier in September. This was his first major product launch in the role, in which he introduced several of the company's autumn releases — the foldable phone alongside new-generation watches and earbuds.
