During a visit to Chery Automobiles in China, TV Autoziņas had the chance to test drive the upcoming QQ3 crossover, slated for the European market in 2027. The car, which may have a different name when it reaches Latvia, represents a complete departure from its predecessors.

This is the third-generation QQ3, and it bears no resemblance to the first two generations, which were poorly made copies of the Daewoo Matiz with tiny engines and rock-bottom prices. The new QQ3 is a compact electric vehicle, just 4.2 meters long but with a relatively long wheelbase of 2.7 meters. It features rear-wheel drive.

The interior is spacious, especially in the back, which is rare for a city car of this size. The fit and finish are excellent, and first impressions are very positive. Two battery options will be available: a 52 kWh pack offering up to 400 km of range, and a smaller pack with around 300 km. The electric motor will produce no more than 120 horsepower, and the top speed is limited to 125 km/h.

Success in Europe will depend on strong crash test performance, and Chery has experience with other models that have passed such tests. The video report includes a rare glimpse of an actual crash test at Chery's facility. The new QQ3 is a testament to how far Chinese auto manufacturing has come and could become a popular choice in the urban electric vehicle segment.
