New Hallmark PlayStation Ornament Pays Homage to a Fragile Yet Beloved Console
Hallmark's latest Keepsake ornament is a replica of the original PlayStation, complete with a green LED and the full boot chime, priced at $28.99.
Hallmark has released a new Keepsake ornament that replicates the original PlayStation console, specifically the pre-DualShock version. The ornament features detailed ridges on the sides, a power plug, and an A/V port that Sony used through the PlayStation 3. The controller is glued to the disc lid, with its flexible cable partially attached to the side.
Pressing the power button triggers a green LED and plays the full two-part PlayStation boot chime. The first part is the synth melody when “Sony Computer Entertainment” appears on screen; the second part, with echo-y chimes and the colorful PlayStation logo, plays only if the console recognizes the disc.
The ornament has minor cosmetic imperfections, such as slightly crooked font on the power button, but these are hard to notice from a distance. Priced at $28.99, it may seem steep but is acceptable for those nostalgic for that era of gaming. Hallmark previously released a similar Xbox 360 ornament.
