Latvia's minifootball national team is heading to the German city of Essen for the World Cup, which will run from August 28 to September 6. The squad includes Brazilian-born multi-artist Felipi, who received his Latvian passport this summer.
In the tournament, Latvia has been drawn into Group E, where it will face Australia, Libya and France.
The squad
Goalkeeper Arvis Švēders-Kūla will be joined by outfield players Gatis Strauss, Markuss Stabulnieks, Sandijs Joksts, Raivis Svilis, Dāvis Trapučka, Edgars Miķelis Kovaļskis, Marko Ķere, Ainārs Daudziešāns, Rihards Konovalovs, and Felipi, who only recently gained Latvian citizenship.
Felipi is already known to Latvian audiences from another sport — a month ago he stepped onto the ice at Rīga Arena for a 3x3 hockey game, though puck-handling skill was not among his talents on display. Minifootball is said to be a sport closer to the multi-artist's heart, and he will now get the chance to prove himself on the world stage.
