A new Patria Latvia facility is being built in Valmiera to manufacture military vehicles and support them throughout their life cycle. Production at the new plant is expected to start next summer, while construction of the building itself is due to finish in the third quarter of 2027.

Facility details

The plant is rising in the Valmiera Industrial and Export Park. Total investment in the project reaches almost eight million euros, including European Union funding and Patria's own contribution. According to the Procurement Monitoring Bureau, construction will be carried out by SIA Aimasa under a contract worth 5,442,716 euros. Works must be completed within 46 calendar weeks at most, and the warranty is at least 60 months.

The plot covers 31,723 square metres, and the production building has a total floor area of 4,163.3 square metres. It will consist of two connected sections: a lower two-storey office wing and a taller single-storey production hall.

Hunter fighting vehicles

At the event, company representative Romanovs said Hunter vehicle production in Latvia is already under way. The first vehicle, which the National Armed Forces received on Wednesday, was built at Patria's first Valmiera plant. Four such vehicles are expected to take part in the 18 November parade this year.

The armed forces currently have an order for 84 Hunter vehicles. Once the new plant opens, they will be built there until 2028, and the facility will also provide maintenance.

GDELS handed over the first Hunter infantry fighting vehicle to the armed forces. Production began in May 2025, integration of the first vehicle in Spain was completed in April 2026, and final integration with the turret in Latvia took place in September. The programme started after the contract was signed in January 2025.

Existing plant and company

Patria's first Valmiera factory assembles 6x6 armoured vehicles not only for Latvia but also for other countries; a Danish order is currently being filled. Its capacity is 150 vehicles a year.

Valmiera municipality council chairman Jānis Baiks said a ramp at the railway spur is planned for the future to make loading and unloading of equipment easier.

Patria Latvia had a turnover of 3.176 million euros last year and a profit of 144,551 euros. The company was registered in 2014 and is owned by Finland's Patria.
