U.S. investigators have uncovered disturbing new details in the high-profile kidnapping case of journalist Savannah Guthrie's mother. Nancy Guthrie, 84, vanished from her Arizona home on January 31. The following day, the family received a ransom note demanding millions of dollars in Bitcoin. The letter contained precise details about the victim's home, leading authorities to believe the author was familiar with her residence.

On February 6, a second letter was sent to the family and media. In it, the kidnappers claimed the woman was dead, calling her death accidental, and apologized to the family, stating they had not intended her to die. While the Pima County Sheriff's Office declined to comment on the letters' content, officials emphasized the investigation is ongoing, with close cooperation from the FBI.

Savannah Guthrie and her siblings released an emotional video plea, begging the kidnappers to return their mother and promising to pay. The family offered a $1 million reward for information, with the FBI adding an additional $100,000. Authorities warned that the elderly woman has serious health issues and requires medication. Surveillance footage from outside her home showed a masked individual.

In late February, Savannah Guthrie admitted the family is trying to remain hopeful, though the situation grows increasingly grim. In March, she revealed the family had received multiple ransom letters but believed the first two were authentic.
