Not an isolated case
It turns out similar situations have affected coaches of other Latvian youth basketball national teams this summer as well. Parents whose children were not included in a squad have reportedly put pressure on coaches, including through threats.
Some of the affected coaches have expressed a wish to address the problem by drawing public attention to it, hoping that openness will help ease the pressure parents place on those responsible for selecting national team rosters.
The situation stands in sharp contrast to the sporting success itself – Latvia's U-16 team achieved a significant result by becoming European champions, yet behind that victory lies tension tied to the player selection process and how parents react to decisions unfavorable to their children.
