Young theatre director and writer Gusts Ābele and film director Edgars Haritončenko have appeared on "Kultūrdeva", a culture programme on Latvian Television, to discuss their choice to work in the arts. Both acknowledge that in the cultural sector, getting one's ideas realised is never certain, and there can even be periods without work. Even so, they say they are ready to take risks and give themselves to art.

Àbele shared his view of what art can do: in his opinion, art cannot really solve problems, but it can give people hope.

What the conversation covers

The discussion touches on several questions: which themes interest the young artists in their own work, what they feel has already been overdone, and where audiences can see the work of the new generation of directors.

The conversation offers a look at how young theatre and film makers think and how willing they are to work under uncertain conditions.
