Tragedy in Jēkabpils: 18-Year-Old Woman Found Dead After Swimming

In Jēkabpils, on Tuesday morning, June 30, an 18-year-old woman was found dead after going swimming at the popular Radžu Reservoir and disappearing the previous evening, Latvian Television reports.

The young woman went swimming on Monday evening and did not return. Several services were involved in the search – firefighters, rescue workers, and state and municipal police. Throughout the night, they searched the reservoir using a rescue board, a boat, and a drone.

Artis Bokāns, the manager of the reservoir, told LTV that the search was still ongoing when he arrived at work after 6 a.m. Nothing had been found, and they were waiting for divers. After about half an hour or an hour, workers further away from the beach noticed something in the water. It turned out to be the woman, who had surfaced just behind the children's buoy in about one and a half meters of water. She was pulled out with no signs of life.
