Estonian firm plans €200 million ammunition plant in Jēkabpils municipality
Estonian company "Wolfram Europa" is planning to build an explosives and ammunition plant in Jēkabpils municipality worth up to €200 million, creating around 200 jobs. Production is expected to start in the second half of 2027.
Estonian-owned company "Wolfram Europa" has decided to expand its military-industrial presence in Latvia by choosing Jēkabpils municipality as the site for a new explosives and ammunition production facility. Investment in the project could reach up to €200 million.
The plant is planned for a site covering approximately 40 hectares. The company estimates that once operational, the facility could employ around 200 people, creating new jobs in the region.
The plant is expected to produce its first output in the second half of 2027. The company has also highlighted the facility's strategic value in crisis situations, saying it has been designed to keep operating for up to six months without external supplies, ensuring resilience in the event of a potential threat.
The project fits into a broader trend of military-industrial companies seeking to expand production capacity in the Baltic region, driven by growing demand for ammunition and related goods.
