Jēkabpils county was among the municipalities hit hardest by the recent devastating storm, which caused widespread power and mobile network outages. Speaking on the program "Spried ar Delfi," county council chairman Raivis Ragainis, representing the LZP party, shared his experience of managing the crisis.

Contrasting operator behavior

Ragainis said mobile network operators behaved very differently during the crisis. He praised one operator for good cooperation, noting it promptly informed the municipality about when service at base stations would be restored, allowing local authorities to plan their response and keep residents updated.

By contrast, he described communication from the other operators as unsatisfactory. According to Ragainis, their representatives responded dismissively to the municipality's questions and requests, which he summed up with a phrase characteristic of that attitude: "Stop bothering me with your questions!"

Importance for crisis response

Access to communications and timely information about network restoration proved essential for municipalities coordinating relief efforts and keeping residents informed during the storm's aftermath. Ragainis's criticism suggests that not all operators cooperated equally effectively with local governments, which could have complicated crisis management in the county.
