A doctor at Jēkabpils Regional Hospital was physically assaulted while on duty by an aggressive person who had accompanied a patient to the hospital. The attack left the medic with a concussion.
The injured doctor said that following the incident, he no longer feels safe at his workplace. He also pointed to a broader trend, noting that medical staff have increasingly been facing overt aggression recently, both from patients themselves and from the people accompanying them.
Hospital's response
In light of this and similar incidents, the management of Jēkabpils Regional Hospital has begun considering possible measures to improve staff safety at the facility.
