A public discussion meeting on the first draft of the new territorial plan for Jelgava, a city in Latvia's Zemgale region, will take place on 19 October at 6 p.m. A territorial plan is a municipal document that sets out how land in the city may be used and which building rules apply. The consultation lets residents voice their views before the plan moves forward.

The meeting is scheduled at the Zemgale Region Competence Development Centre, 33 Svētes Street. People can also join remotely via Zoom, but must register in advance.

Ten proposals submitted so far

The public discussion began on 28 September and will run until 6 November. According to Jelgava municipality, ten resident proposals have been received so far: five through the state geospatial information portal geolatvija.lv and another five by email to the municipality.

The proposals call for a review of street red lines, permitted land use and building parameters. Some residents have also asked for an explanation of what changes are planned compared with the plan currently in force.

How to submit proposals

The first draft of the plan can be viewed on geolatvija.lv. Proposals can be submitted either on this portal or in writing to the municipality until the consultation ends on 6 November.
