Jelgava to open “Ghetto Games” winter season with football and basketball tournaments
The “Ghetto Games” winter season “Forget the Winter” will kick off on September 23 at Jelgava's Zemgale Olympic Centre with street football and 3×3 basketball competitions. Entry for spectators is free, and youngest age groups compete without a fee.
The Jelgava Sports Service Centre has announced that the “Ghetto Games” winter season, titled “Forget the Winter,” will open on September 23 at the Zemgale Olympic Centre. The opening event will feature street football and 3×3 basketball competitions.
Categories and schedule
“Ghetto Football” competitions are planned in the U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16, OPEN and Lady categories, while “Ghetto Basket” will run in U-12, U-14, U-16, OPEN and Lady categories. Games in the youngest age groups start at 3 p.m., while OPEN and Lady category matches begin at 6 p.m.
Participation is free for teams up to the U-16 age group, while OPEN and Lady category teams must pay a 20-euro entry fee. Admission for spectators is free.
Additional activities
During the event, young people will have access to a mental health check station, where they can take a mental health test and talk with trained youth volunteers and specialists. Visitors will also find a podcast studio, a “PlayStation” zone, a reaction-speed test and powerlifting activities.
Four events in total are planned for the “Forget the Winter” winter season. After Jelgava, “Ghetto Games” will travel to the Kurzeme and Vidzeme regions, with the season concluding on January 23 with the winter super-finals in Ķīpsala, Riga.
The event is organized by the “Ghetto Games” association in cooperation with the Jelgava Sports Service Centre.
