Jelgava calls on young people to join its youth council
Young people aged 13 to 30 can apply to join the Jelgava Youth Council until September 30. The body identifies youth needs and puts forward proposals to the city government.
The youth centres of Jelgava are inviting young people aged 13 to 30 to apply for membership in the Jelgava Youth Council. Applications are being accepted until September 30 this year.
The Youth Council is a body with up to 15 members. Its role is to identify the interests and needs of young people, bring proposals to the municipal government, and carry out its own initiatives. The council works together with student self-governments, other youth organisations and institutions, and its members take part in projects at the local, national and international level.
Experience of the first term
The first Jelgava Youth Council began its work last year. Over the course of the year, members took part in a number of city-wide and national events — meeting with city leadership, attending the Signal Elections forum in Riga, organising a competition for event initiative projects, and joining activities at Jelgava's youth centres.
The work of the Youth Council is coordinated and supported by the municipal interest-education institution "Jaunrades nams 'Junda'".
