Jelgava Considers Introducing Time-Based Bus Tickets and Reviewing Routes
Jelgava city authorities are evaluating a time-based ticket for public buses and a review of the route network. Mayor Mārtiņš Daģis said the route No. 30, launched in September, could become permanent.

The Latvian city of Jelgava is assessing whether to introduce a time-based ticket on its city buses and, at the same time, review its bus routes. Mārtiņš Daģis (“Par!” party), chairman of the Jelgava city council, told journalists on Monday. A time-based ticket would let passengers plan trips that include transfers.
The new route No. 30
In September, Jelgava launched public transport route No. 30 for a three-month trial period. It runs along the full length of Atmodas and Rūpniecības streets, from Lapskalna Street to Jelgava railway station. Daģis said the route is relatively popular, and given passenger interest it could become permanent.
Residents of the Līniju-Miezītes neighbourhood have asked the municipality to add more stops on this route as it enters their area, and to review other routes too.
Route review
According to the mayor, the city's bus depot has been tasked with evaluating a review of routes while also introducing the time-based ticket. He believes other routes could be changed as well, since more than ten different bus routes currently run along the central Lielā Street. It therefore needs to be examined whether they can be made more efficient, merged or altered.
The source does not mention any final decisions on the ticket or route changes.
