Diaspora actresses' play about motherhood draws full house in Jelgava

Last Friday evening, despite heavy rain, Jelgava's Student Theatre staged the play "A Latvian Woman in Italy (Just) Introduces Herself," Part 2 "Mothers." The small venue was completely full, and the audience remained engaged throughout the hour-and-ten-minute performance.
Three actresses from different countries
The production featured three Latvian-born actresses now based abroad: Lāsma Pintere from Italy, Lilita Tomsena from Denmark, and Sandra Bondarevska from Ireland. Through deep monologues, sharp humor and unexpected emotional turns, they built dialogues that reached both the minds and hearts of the audience.
Shared emotions across different lives
At the heart of the play was the idea that a girl and a mother — regardless of age or the country they live in — long for the same fundamental things: happiness, inner harmony and love. At the same time, the performance highlighted how attitudes, personalities, upbringing and childhood experiences can differ, and how these factors shape each woman's present-day outlook on life. Every line spoken carried a personal history and a deeper meaning beneath the surface.
