Jelgava to host “Heijā, heijā, pulkā nāc!” sports festival for families
A sports festival for families with preschool and early primary school children will take place in the Jelgava sports hall on 29 November. Participation is free, and organisers ask people to register by 27 November.

The city of Jelgava will hold the family sports festival “Heijā, heijā, pulkā nāc!” (roughly, “Hey, hey, join the crowd!”) on 29 November at 10:00 in the Jelgava sports hall. The event is intended for families with preschool and early primary school children, according to the Jelgava Sports Service Centre, a municipal sports institution. Its aim is to show children what sports opportunities are available in Jelgava and to help each of them find a suitable activity.
Activities for children
Children will be able to try various sports and take part in ten activity stations. Relay races are planned under the names “I will be a judoka”, “I will be a rower”, “I will be a runner”, “I will be an ice hockey player”, “I will be a swimmer”, “I will be a basketball player”, “I will be a footballer” and “I will be an Olympian”.
There will also be a large inflatable relay attraction called “Who is faster?” and a memory game, “The Clever Jelgava Resident”, in which participants can learn about the city's most notable sites.
Participation and registration
Families with children aged three to ten are invited. Participation is free, but organisers ask people to register in advance so they can estimate the number of participants. Registration is open until 27 November.
Those who only learn about the event at the last minute can also register on site from 9:45.
Organisers
The festival is organised by the Jelgava Sports Service Centre together with the Jelgava Children and Youth Sports School, the Jelgava Specialised Swimming School, the Jelgava Ice Sports School, the basketball club “Jelgava” and the football club “Jelgava”.
