Jelgava installs several new speed bumps on city streets
Jelgava has completed installation of new speed bumps on Platones and Iecavas streets after traffic surveys showed widespread speeding. The Platones Street work was funded through a participatory budget project, with further traffic-calming measures planned.
The Jelgava municipal utility “Pilsētsaimniecība” has announced the completion of several new speed bumps across the city, aimed at reducing vehicle speeds and improving road safety.
On Platones Street, four new speed bumps have been installed as part of a participatory budget project called “A calm and safe Platones Street,” which allowed residents to propose the improvement themselves. Officials noted that this is not the only measure planned for the street — additional traffic-calming solutions are expected to follow soon.
Speed bumps added on Iecavas Street too
On Iecavas Street, two speed bumps have been built, with the work carried out in two sections: from Saules Street to Dalbes Street, and from Baldones Street to Valgundes Street.
The decision to install the bumps was based on traffic monitoring data, which showed that nearly 74% of drivers on Iecavas Street exceeded the posted 30 km/h speed limit. These findings prompted the municipality to add traffic-calming infrastructure to reduce risks for both drivers and pedestrians.
