Speed bumps installed on Jāņa Street in Jelgava; limit set to 20 km/h
Two speed bumps have been installed on a section of Jāņa Street in Jelgava between Pasta Street and Zemgale Avenue, with the maximum speed limit set at 20 km/h. The measures aim to improve pedestrian safety near the church and the Junda creative house.
The municipal institution Pilsētsaimniecība has announced new traffic safety measures on Jāņa Street in Jelgava. Two prefabricated speed bumps have been placed on the stretch from Pasta Street to Zemgale Avenue, and the maximum permitted driving speed has been reduced to 20 kilometres per hour. The changes affect the part of the street located near St. John's Church and the Junda creative house.
According to the municipality, the decision was made by the municipal traffic safety commission after evaluating a residents' submission and analysing the traffic situation in the specific section. Previously, drivers were found to be exceeding the speed limit there, creating an increased risk for pedestrians and other road users.
The area sees a large number of pedestrians every day, including children and young people who visit the creative house or the church. In order to reduce hazardous situations, the municipality decided to introduce speed-limiting solutions. The speed bumps are designed to make drivers slow down, while the 20 km/h limit is intended to improve pedestrian safety.
These measures are part of the city's efforts to improve traffic infrastructure and are aimed at making this section of Jāņa Street safer for all road users.
