Several motorcycles collide during Jelgava season-closing parade, three injured
Several motorcycles crashed in Jelgava during a season-closing ride, injuring three riders and prompting temporary traffic restrictions on the city's bridges.
A multi-motorcycle collision occurred in Jelgava on Saturday between the Lielupe and Driksa bridges during a season-ending motorcycle event. The Jelgava municipality announced on social media that traffic restrictions on Liela Street would be extended as a result.
The LETA news agency, observing the scene, reported that at least three motorcyclists were injured. The State Police confirmed that a report of a collision between two participants in the motorcycle ride was received around 1:30 PM. One motorcycle carried a single rider, while the other carried two.
The Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) confirmed that three people were injured in the incident and received assistance from paramedics on site. One of the injured was taken to a medical facility, though none of the injuries were reported as severe.
Traffic restrictions
The municipality said traffic across the bridges would resume once the parade participants had passed beyond Jelgava Palace and the road was cleared.
Large-scale event
The crash occurred on a day when more than 3,000 motorcyclists from across Latvia gathered in Jelgava for the season-closing ride through the city. The city was also hosting the "Rocktagons 26" rock and alternative music festival, along with an event called "Mežs ienāk Jelgavā 2026" ("The Forest Comes to Jelgava"). Riders began gathering at Jelgava Palace from 10 AM, and at 1 PM set off on a parade route starting at the palace parking lot and passing through the city's central streets, including Liela, Uzvaras, Lapskalna and Atmodas streets, as well as the Dobele highway.
