Two people rescued from fire in five-storey building in Jelgava
On Sunday, firefighters rescued two people from a smoke-filled apartment building in Jelgava, while five more residents were evacuated. Latvia's State Fire and Rescue Service logged 13 calls in the Zemgale region over the past days.
On Sunday, September 27, two people were rescued from a fire in Jelgava, according to Latvia's State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD).
The call came in at 6:41 p.m. regarding a five-storey residential building on Meiju Road, where the entrance door of a second-floor apartment was burning across an area of about three square metres. Firefighters rescued two people from the smoke-filled premises, while another five residents were evacuated from the building. Work at the scene concluded at 7:41 p.m.
Calls in the Zemgale region
Between 6:30 a.m. on September 25 and 6:30 a.m. on September 28, the VUGD's Zemgale regional department received a total of 13 calls. Of these, five involved firefighting, six involved rescue operations, and two turned out to be false alarms.
Calls nationwide
Over the same period, the VUGD received 129 calls across Latvia as a whole. Of these, 31 involved firefighting, 58 involved rescue operations, and 40 were false alarms.
