Jelgava to host round of Europe's electric karting league
On August 14–15, the Rullītis sports complex in Jelgava will host the second round of the 2026 BSR European Electric Karting League, featuring 44-horsepower BSR-X5 karts made in Latvia. The event runs alongside the fourth round of the Latvian karting championship.
On Friday and Saturday, August 14–15, the Rullītis sports complex in Jelgava will host the second round of this year's BSR European Electric Karting League (EEKL). The competition features Latvian-made BSR-X5 electric karts producing 44 horsepower.
On Friday, X5 PRO and OPEN class drivers will have four practice sessions followed by qualifying at 5:20 PM. Saturday begins with a warm-up, followed by two finals and a superfinal, concluding with an awards ceremony. The event runs alongside the fourth round of the Latvian karting championship.
Second round follows successful Madona debut
The season opened in June in Madona, where 14 drivers from five countries — Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden and Italy — took to the start. Olivers Tams won the PRO class, while Gustavs Ušakovs took the OPEN class, beating Lithuanian driver Martynas Tankevičius. Drivers in both classes race together on track, but results are scored separately based on driver weight.
Technology and international growth
The BSR-X5 karts used in competition produce up to 33 kW, or 44 horsepower, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in about 3.5 seconds and reaching speeds up to 135 km/h. Batteries can be swapped in roughly two minutes, allowing racing to continue without long charging breaks.
Technology from Liepāja-based company Blue Shock Race is also used in the American Electric Karting League, Japan's national championship, and the Benelux series. The 2026 EEKL calendar still includes rounds in Ropaži and the Netherlands, plus a super round whose location will be announced later. The season champion will earn a spot at the American league's Grand Final in Florida.
