Jelgava sees more pupils in grades 1, 7 and 10 this year
The number of pupils in grades 1, 7 and 10 has risen in Jelgava's schools for the 2026/2027 academic year, the city's Education Board reports. In total, 7,535 pupils are enrolled in the municipality's schools.
Jelgava's municipal Education Board has reported a rise in pupil numbers in several grades for the 2026/2027 school year compared with the previous one.
The biggest increase was in first grade, where 675 pupils began classes this year — 47 more than last year. In seventh grade, 758 pupils are currently enrolled, an increase of 30 compared with the previous school year. Tenth grade, where pupils typically begin upper-secondary studies, saw 435 pupils start this year, eight more than the year before.
According to data confirmed in the State Education Information System, a total of 7,535 pupils are currently enrolled in basic and secondary education programmes across Jelgava's municipal schools.
The Education Board did not specify the reasons behind the increase in pupil numbers.
