Jelgava event gathers practical aid convoy for Ukraine
An event in Jelgava marking Ukraine's Independence Day and the anniversary of the Baltic Way also served as an occasion to prepare a ten-car convoy carrying food and other necessities for Ukraine.
On Sunday, September 6, the city of Jelgava held an event commemorating two significant anniversaries — Ukraine's Independence Day, observed in late August, and the anniversary of the Baltic Way. Organizers noted that both occasions share a common thread: the struggle of nations for freedom and independence.
While Ukraine's independence celebrations had already passed, organizers pointed out that Russia's war against Ukraine continues without pause. For that reason, the Jelgava event combined its commemorative program with a practical component aimed at directly helping Ukrainians affected by the war.
A convoy of support
As part of the event, a convoy of ten vehicles was assembled to travel to Ukraine. The vehicles were loaded with food supplies and other everyday necessities intended for people affected by the ongoing conflict.
The initiative reflects the continued involvement of Latvian communities in supporting Ukraine since the war began, pairing historical remembrance with tangible, direct assistance for those living through the consequences of the conflict.
