Jelgava museum to host meeting with painter Juris Ģērmanis, whose landscapes are on display

The Ģederts Eliass Jelgava History and Art Museum is showing painter Juris Ģērmanis' exhibition "Roads Near and Far" through September 13. On Friday, September 4, at 5 p.m., the museum will host a meeting with the artist, giving visitors a chance to meet him in person and learn more about his creative work.
The exhibition brings together Ģērmanis' landscape paintings created during various stages of his life and artistic career. According to the artist, his fascination with landscape painting began in childhood, at age 11, when he spent summers outdoors painting.
Ģērmanis says what still draws him to landscape painting is the interplay of color and light, distinctive composition, engaging details, expression and mood. He believes the landscape genre offers a way to convey the full range of human emotion, and he hopes viewers will recognize themselves in his work, believe in it, and connect with it emotionally.
The artist adds that with this exhibition he wanted to show himself and others the landscapes created along his long life's path — an opportunity to recall past events and experiences and reflect on the twists and turns of his artistic expression.
During the meeting, the painter will share his creative experience and talk about what has inspired him to focus on landscape painting. Admission to the event is free.
