Meetings between residents and municipal leaders, which began last year, are continuing in Jelgava. According to the municipality, residents of the Centre and Māra neighbourhoods were invited on 6 October to talk with council chairman Mārtiņš Daģis.

During the meetings, residents could ask about the development of the city and their own neighbourhoods, as well as share observations and proposals. Also taking part were deputy chairmen Mārtiņš Štāls and Aigars Rublis, municipal executive director Irina Malahovska, and Dace Stūre, a territorial planner at the Development and Urban Planning Department.

Topics discussed

One of the main topics was the first draft of the new territorial plan, which is open for public consultation until 6 November. Participants also discussed waste collection, the need for parking spaces, paving gravel roads with asphalt, the site of the former market on Ausekļa Street, possible traffic restrictions on Katoļu Street, and the planned mobility hubs near the railway station.

The talks also touched on areas earmarked for development and on attracting investment to the sites of the current bus station and the prison.

The questions and proposals raised will be compiled and passed on to the responsible municipal institutions.

Upcoming meetings

The next meetings are scheduled for 8 October. At 5:30 p.m. the council will meet residents of the Ģintermuiža-Būriņi neighbourhood, and at 7 p.m. residents of the Filozofi neighbourhood. Both will take place at Jelgava Primary School, 34 Pulkveža Oskara Kalpaka Street.
