New paid parking rules at Jelgava's new market: two free hours, then €1 per hour
Starting 5 August, the parking lot at Jelgava's new market allows free parking for the first two hours, after which drivers must pay €1 per hour. The municipality has also introduced day, night and monthly tickets.
On Monday, 5 August, the Jelgava municipality introduced a new parking regime at the lot adjacent to the city's new market. From now on, any driver may leave a vehicle in the lot free of charge for up to two hours. If the car is parked longer, the following hours will cost one euro per hour.
The municipality has set several tariffs depending on the length of stay and the time of day. For example, a day ticket valid from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. costs two euros, while a night ticket covering 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. costs one euro. For those who park regularly, a monthly subscription is available for 15 euros.
To monitor compliance, video cameras have been installed in the parking area. They will record the licence plates of every entering car as well as the time the vehicle spends in the lot.
The local government had previously announced that residents could use the newly built parking lot without any restrictions until the new market started operating. With the opening of the market, the lot has switched to a paid system with the announced rates.
