Fake heating 'expert' from Jelgava area jailed after taking money for gas boiler, never installing it

As autumn chill set in, a woman from the Jelgava area decided it was time to get a new gas heating boiler for her home. She turned to an acquaintance whom she considered a trustworthy person, and who promised to both purchase and install the new boiler.

The woman handed over money to the man to cover the cost of the work, trusting his promise that her heating system would be sorted out before the cold season. However, the promised work was never carried out — the boiler was neither bought nor installed, while the money stayed with the man.

Case goes to court

The man was held accountable for his fraudulent actions, and the matter was brought before a court. As a result, the so-called heating 'expert' received a real punishment for his conduct — he has been sent to prison.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of exercising caution when choosing service providers for home repair and improvement work, even when they appear to be familiar and trustworthy acquaintances, and of keeping documented proof of payments made and the terms agreed upon.
